We had to go there twice already to register our son, who was born in Ixelles - and we haven't gotten anywhere since it is open for a brief fraction of the day (compared to people who have to work 8 hours a day and pay taxes) and no one tells you which documents you need. Not to mention that they refuse to speak English or German and are impolite all around - avoid it if you can, it is a slow and unnerving shame for the 21st century. Small Update: The staff remains incapable of dealing with non-French speaking expats who happen to be forced to deal with them, however, a very friendly Frenchman helped us to get our son registered - Thanks to you, you know who you are! :)

Attention expats: Brace yourselves for some really incompetent and unnerving people who will force you to go back and forth several times, even if you think you came prepared after calling and checking the info on their website, be ready for something to go wrong. They contradict each other and a document that may be deemed valid by someone will be considered invalid by another colleague from the same department a week later. Be also ready for surprises, and not the good kind... Like changing your family name without you even asking and knowing because someone made a mistake in the system, yup that happened to my gf just now and good luck finding someone willing to help you in English. But I still gave it two stars because one out of five employees working there (and I met a lot of them in the past months) is actually polite, capable and willing to help and the waiting times aren't as bad as the one for Brussels 1000 which reminded me of being in a 3rd world country. Not surprised to see the poor ratings both communes are getting online and it's a real shame for the "capital of the EU" to offer such poor services to fellow Europeans and foreigners.
